This Course trains talented individuals who can resolve challenges related to architecture and design, environmental and urban engineering, and management systems; become leaders who look towards societies with sustainable growth potential; and further the creation of new interdisciplinary domains.
There is a need for researchers and technical experts who can play an active part in such areas as resilient urban development, city and transportation planning as well as environmental conservation, next-generation statistical process control methods, service design and evaluation, and strategic human resources management methods. To this end, it is crucial to offer highly specialized educational programs where students can resolve challenges related to the environment, societies, and management, and hence acquire high-level knowledge and ability for establishing sustainable societies.
Students in the program will equip themselves with high-level specialized knowledge and skills related to the planning, scheduling, design, evaluation, creation, maintenance and improvement of systems which comprehensively capture people’s activities and environments from various aspects, such as the cities and dwellings that form their activity space, organizations and communities, natural environments, and the productivity and aesthetic value of their activities, and the deliberateness and variety of those activities.
In order to enrich research and education, the Major consists of three fields; Architecture and Design, Environmental and Urban Engineering, and Management Systems. In addition, as a link with adult education, we offer a short-term enrolled course for people related with management.
With a view to architectural planning, building construction design, and the design of people’s activities and services, students will learn specialist knowledge and skills regarding the functional configuration of construction groups, building design process management, analysis of cities and sceneries, preservation of historic buildings, analysis and planning of building construction safety, analysis and preservation of architecture, city environments and living environments, and the analysis and design methods of Things, Ideas, and Services.
In order to become highly specialized engineers who will contribute to attractive urban societies, sustainable cities, resilient national land, and urban development, students will learn specialized knowledge and skills relating to concern for the environment, and the ability to think about technology and rationalization from such viewpoints as environment, disaster prevention, energy, maintenance, and specialist knowledge of things like construction compatible with both defense against natural disasters and enjoyment of the natural environment, earthquake resilience, materials, hydraulics, foundations, planning, ecology, environmental reconstruction, environmental impact prediction, mathematics and statistics.
In order to solve the varied problems arising from the increasing complexity of social activities students will, based on management science viewpoints, multilaterally collect and analyze information, and study methods and special skills for high-precision near-future prediction, establishment of optimal operational conditions, creation of venues for value sharing, mission setting for the construction and achievement of management vision, and other such related matters. Specifically, students will learn expert knowledge and skills related to system management, project management and risk management, with activities in such industries as manufacturing, information, finance and public agencies as the target.
